About Wine Australia
What We Do
GWRDC invests in and directs research, development and extension (RD&E) along the whole value chain ‘from vine to glass’ to enhance the profitability, competitiveness and sustainability of the Australian wine sector.
Established in 1991 under the Primary Industries and Energy Research and Development Act 1989, we are an Australian Government statutory authority. Governed by a Board of Directors, our national operations are directed from our Adelaide office located at the National Wine Centre.
We collaborate with our key stakeholders to coordinate and direct our investments to best address the sector’s RD&E priorities. We also facilitate the dissemination, adoption and commercialisation of research results throughout the sector.
We invest in R&D from existing providers including the Australian Wine Research Institute, the National Wine and Grape Industry Centre, the CSIRO, universities and state agencies, on behalf of the Australian wine sector.
GWRDC is funded by grapegrowers and winemakers, who pay levies on the annual winegrape crush, and the Australian Government, which provides matching funds.
