Research projects

GWRDC invests in and directs research, development and extension that supports a competitive Australian wine sector. Our investments are guided by the strategic research priorities of the Australian Government and the Australian wine sector.

During the year, we invite applications for investments in the following areas:

  • Research and development projects in high-priority and priority areas
  • Honours, Masters and PhD scholarships, and
  • Travel scholarships.

We do not invest in activities that are based on political aims or promotion of products, regional activities or organisations, nor where there is no market failure (this refers to activities that could reasonably be expected to be provided by the market on a cost recovery/profit basis).

Investment applications 2014-15

Targeted call

In our targeted call for 2014–15, we invited collaborative multi-disciplinary proposals as part of a two-stage process to address the three priority areas of:

  • Process efficiency
  • Vineyard profitability
  • Biosecurity.

The investment priorities for vineyard profitability and process efficiency were identified in a gaps analysis and the call was held earlier in 2013. Applications for these priority areas have now closed. Final project applications that address the priority area of biosecurity and lead to the development of diagnostic protocols for key exotic pests closed on Friday 24 January 2014.
