Two medals save face for Australia at world wine awards

Two South Australian wineries have saved the nation from a scoreless defeat at a prestigious international wine awards announced at the Royal Opera House in London overnight. Grant Burge 20 Year Old Tawny from the Barossa Valley won the trophy for best sweet fortified wine while O’Leary Walker Wines from the Clare Valley won the best Riesling. Considered the Olympics of wine making, the Decanter World Wine Awards saw 211 world-class judges taste a record 14,120 wines from 47 countries to come up with a small group of winners, reports the Herald Sun.
